Degree of Disability Management (DoDM) has been adopted by the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation to measure the
effectiveness of the Managed Care Organizations (MCO). DoDM is a tool used for reporting return-to-work success for
all claims. It's the first real outcome measure in Workers' Compensation. NuPath products and services provide the tools
to implement DoDM. The DoDM guidelines are embedded in NuPath Solutions.
DoDM encourages proactive management of the disability rather than just resource management. The model measures and
scales the length of the disability.
DoDM measures aggregate management of:
- Access to quality medical care.
- Delivery of quality medical care.
- Successful medical outcome.
- Expectations of injured worker.
The Ohio Workers' Compensation environment is changing rapidly from resource management to disability. It's the vanguard
of change in the United States, with all states watching the success in Ohio. MCO's must develop proactive relationships
with providers and employer clients. They must also communicate DoDM expectations to the provider, employer and injured
worker and MCO must work with the employer to create modified duty/bridge assignments, which will support DoDM.
What is the real cost of excess disability?
- Productivity loss is 4-5 times indemnity costs
- Morale loss
- Loss of intellectual capital
- Production inconsistency
- New employee replacement cost
- Training of new personnel
- Schedule rating
